Pre & Post Treatment Care

The Lip Edit

BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT

For the best experience and to help minimize bruising and swelling:

  • Avoid alcohol for approximately 48 hours before your appointment.

  • When medically appropriate, avoid non-prescription medications or supplements that may increase bruising, such as NSAIDs, fish oil, and vitamin E. Do not stop any prescribed medication without first speaking with your healthcare provider.

  • Arrive well hydrated and have a meal before your appointment.

  • Avoid scheduling dental procedures around your filler appointment. Your provider may recommend allowing approximately 2 weeks between dental work and treatment.

  • We cannot perform treatment if you have an active cold sore, infection, or irritation in or around the treatment area. Please contact us so we can safely reschedule you.

  • Consider limiting caffeine and other stimulants on the day of your appointment, especially if they tend to make you feel anxious or flushed.

AFTER YOUR APPOINTMENT

Swelling, tenderness, mild firmness, and bruising are normal after lip filler and may temporarily make the lips appear uneven.

  • Swelling is usually most noticeable during the first few days and gradually improves. Residual swelling or firmness can take longer to completely settle.

  • Your final result should be evaluated only after the filler has had adequate time to settle.

  • Avoid unnecessary touching, rubbing, massaging, or pressure on the lips for the first 72 hours unless your injector gives you specific instructions.

  • If massage is recommended for your particular treatment, your injector will explain when and how to begin.

  • Avoid excessive pressure or repetitive puckering/sucking motions during the initial healing period.

  • Avoid strenuous exercise, saunas, steam rooms, hot tubs, and excessive heat for approximately 72 hours.

  • Avoid alcohol for approximately 48 hours, as it may increase swelling or bruising.

  • If you need pain relief, follow the recommendations provided by your healthcare provider. Do not take medications that are not appropriate for you.

  • Sleeping with your head slightly elevated the first night may help with swelling.

  • Before taking antihistamines or other medications for swelling, follow your provider’s recommendations and medication instructions.

  • Avoid dental procedures for approximately 2 weeks after treatment unless your healthcare provider advises otherwise.

YOUR RESULTS

You will notice an immediate change after treatment, although your lips may initially appear fuller because of swelling. As swelling resolves, your results will gradually soften and become more refined.

Depending on your starting anatomy, desired volume, and treatment goals, more than one session may be recommended to achieve your ideal result.

Lip filler longevity varies from person to person based on the product used, metabolism, lifestyle, anatomy, and desired level of correction. Maintenance appointments are commonly considered around 6–12 months, but your treatment plan will be personalized to you.
